Abuptic Festival
|
Celebrating almost 400 years of history by the sea, and close historical connections with the New England States, the week long Abuptic Festival brings people together from southwestern Nova Scotia and “away”. Every event is related to the sea. Starting with the meet and greet, activities include a rowing race, lobster crate runs, 4 wheeler races, and a lobster crate building contest. Children also enjoy many sports and games. Fishers of Argyle donate their boats for the week and take visitors on historic tours. The highlight of the festival is the historical scavenger hunt. Sometimes 600-700 people are in boats, searching the surrounding islands for clues – and all the clues pertain to local history. What a fun way to learn the history of Argyle! At the end of the week, a concert featuring local talent is held. The final day brings a parade of decorated boats, a corn boil, sleep over and fireworks to top it all off!
